Situated on a former US Navy housing site, the Villages at Cabrillo is a residential community dedicated to providing a range of services to break the cycle of homelessness and encourage self-sufficiency for veterans, families and individuals in need of transitional housing and services.
Working collaboratively with Century Housing, as well as US Vets, the major service provider on the campus, an illustrative Master Development Plan for the entire campus, depicting current and proposed development, as well as future development areas, and a detailed statistical development summary was prepared. Existing and Proposed Parking Plans were prepared for the campus as well in order to support the client's submission to the City of Long Beach, relating to Phase Three developments including Family Housing and Family Shelter projects.
A significant focused planning effort resulted in an access and circulation study related to establishing a primary entry, gate system and overall sense of address for the campus. Gate and signage locations were explored, along with a potential evolution of the campus circulation system, and the augmentation of the campus open space and pathway system. A design concept for the campus entry gate system, entry-street and associated monumentation and signage was also developed.
A landscape palette addressing an approach to planting, and providing direction for specific plant materials to be used on the campus was created in order to inform the design of the campus entry and way-finding elements and gate system, and to establish a direction for future development of the campus.
This package of planning analysis and illustrative information provides comprehensive background information and a concise summary describing the direction the campus is headed in its continuing development.
