Planning is currently underway for a twenty-four mile extension to the Metro Gold Line that, upon completion, will provide light rail service to eleven different San Gabriel Valley cities. The Foothill Construction Authority, an organization formed to design, build and construct the light rail line, is leading this initiative to assess opportunities for, and the impact of, Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) along the Gold Line Foothill extension corridor.

Meléndrez visualized and illustrated urban design solutions relating to connections between transit-oriented development sites and the proposed light rail stations that will eventually be constructed by Metro in the cities of Pomona, Monrovia, Irwindale, Duarte, San Dimas and Glendora.

The firm developed a series of before and after photo simulations, character sketches, and aerial perspectives that depict form, scale, and massing of development as well as character and amenities within Gold Line station areas. The visualizations help to describe ways in which the pedestrian realm and pedestrian connectivity may be enhanced in the station areas, as well as how new development might work in synergy with its surroundings as Gold Line Foothill Extension cities consider development plans to enhance their downtowns' and neighborhoods' connections to transit.
