TALLEST LIVING WALL IN LOS ANGELES TAKES LIFE AT PACMUTUAL IN DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

December 04, 2014

This week, Meléndrez’s planting design is being realized in the form of an 88-foot tall living wall at the PacMutual building in Downtown Los Angeles. The project is the tallest living wall to be installed in Los Angeles, not to mention it’s being done on the oldest building LEED Platinum Certified in Southern California. The groundbreaking LiveWall Green Wall System, utilizes an irrigation misting system and sliding planters that will hold live planting up the entire façade. At the base, a pocket park will catch the water runoff.  Meléndrez designed a black, white, dark green and light green planting palette in a linear rhythmic pattern. The courtyard created by the wall will host a Tartine Boulangerie Patisserie, activating the traditionally quiet Olive Street across from Pershing Square.

The living wall marks just one of the upgrades Rising Realty Partners has completed in the renovation of the building. Other projects include an open courtyard on 6th Street that now provides outside seating for Le Pain Quotidien and Tender Greens.
