Birch Street Promenade is a 750-foot pedestrian promenade lined with shops and restaurants, designed as the centerpiece of the City of Brea's $100 million downtown revitalization. Serving the entire downtown, the finished project provides six buildings comprising 80,000 SF of live/work lofts located on the second and third floors above retail shops. Meléndrez was selected to design the landscape and streetscape elements of this project that tie the building architecture and site into a revitalized and cohesive district.
Meléndrez designers were charged with selecting the paving, lighting and outdoor furniture that would contribute to this district's overall sense of place. Landscaping brings the buildings down to a more human scale, and lends to a pedestrian friendly environment. The design team has incorporated art into one of the Promenade's pedestrian courtyards.
This successful downtown revitalization marks the first major street retail and entertainment destination to be completed in Orange County. As the first major effort of its kind here, the City of Brea, CIM Group, Meléndrez and the rest of the project team have set the bar at a high level for future developments.
