Melani Smith will be speaking at the Making LA Conference this upcoming Friday, November 7. Joining an esteemed group of designers, architects and artist who are transforming Los Angeles, Melani will be on the panel that focuses on “Reclaiming our Streets”. As a leader in complete streets, Melani will bring expert insight from her experience on projects such as Broadway Streetscape Master Plan, “MyFig” Figueroa Corridor Revisioning, and Michigan Avenue Neighborhood Greenway (MANGo). The full-day conference focuses on urgent issues in Los Angeles, including water, transportation, density, and community.

The conference, held at the historic Los Angeles River Center and Gardens in Cypress Park, gathers together designers and City leaders who have worked to transform Los Angeles into the City it is today. The event marks the culmination of a year-long Making LA series made possible by an Art Works Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. From Fall 2013 to Fall 2014, de Lab has hosted a free program each month that focuses on designers and artists who are transforming Los Angeles. Melani Smith participated in one of the monthly programs, joining Valerie Watson of LADOT, hosting a walking tour of Broadway’s “Dress Rehearsal”.
