Meléndrez recently completed The Pacific Boulevard Streetscape Master Plan, which envisions a dramatic transformation of a major commercial corridor in Downtown Huntington Park. One of the more impactful aspects of this project is the proposed “Pacific Promenade”. Taking inspiration from Barcelona’s Las Ramblas, The Pacific Promenade will become a 30’ wide public plaza space in the middle of the Boulevard. This new public space will have an allée of street trees, pedestrian lighting, and special paving. The Streetscape Plan also encourages this space to house kiosks and street vendors within the Promenade. Other features of the Plan include a new signage program, renovation of the existing street furniture, buffered green bike lanes, consistent street trees, and a pedestrian plaza on Zoe Avenue.

In order to present this new vision of Pacific Boulevard, the team closed Zoe Avenue to vehicular traffic, and transformed the space into a temporary plaza and public open house. To make the event more festive, a bounce house, music, and refreshments were provided to encourage passersby to come and learn about the future of Pacific Boulevard.

The Huntington Park City Council unanimously adopted the Huntington Park Pacific Boulevard Streetscape Master Plan on the 4th of August.
