Meléndrez is working on developing a ‘short-and-sweet’ Vision Plan for the 350+ acre Channel Island Park at California State University, Channel Islands (CSUCI). The park is envisioned as an environmental resource, fostering ecological education and research, and providing a passive recreational opportunity for the university and community.

Meléndrez will package the Vision Plan in a succinct and graphically-rich Brief that can be used as a marketing tool to garner support and go after funding. Working with the TAC, Steering Committee and campus representatives, we’re now sharing opportunities and constraints, and gathering feedback on uses and park desires.   The open space has historic importance to the Chumash Indians and during the 1930s the park was used for agricultural and dairy operations to support the Camarillo State Hospital.  Interesting layers of human and ecological  history are intertwined on site, which are forming the basis of the Vision Plan.
