BROADWAY DRESS REHEARSAL GRAND OPENING AND RIBBON CUTTING

August 28, 2014

The efforts of “Bringing Back Broadway” took another major step forward as the Broadway Dress Rehearsal held its “Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony”, on August 28th. Held in front of the Grand Central Market, city staff members, representatives from the business improvement districts, and Councilman José Huizar, gathered together to celebrate the official opening of the temporary streetscape installation.

Following the adoption of the Broadway Streetscape Masterplan in 2013, Melendrez and LADOT took on its first phase by ‘piloting’ the design Broadway Dress Rehearsal. The installation used striping, traffic delineators, planters, and a special surface treatment to extend the pedestrian space into the former roadway. To activate this space further, some businesses along the corridor have chosen to furnish this extended space with cafe tables, chairs, and umbrellas.

Melendrez would like to thank Council District 4 and the entire Broadway Streetscape Team for this momentous occasion. To learn more about the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony click here and here.
